"Why Do You Think They Are Called For Profit Colleges?"

"Why Do You Think They Are Called For Profit Colleges?"

1.     What seems to be Carey's overall argument?

Kevin Carey’s overall argument in his article “Why Do You Think They’re Called For-profit Colleges?” seems to be his idea of for-profit colleges to be more systematic than regular colleges. He believes traditional colleges are not as efficient as for-profit colleges. However, he also balances out his arguments and weighs in both sides. Carey gives evidence to support his claims by giving examples of certain for-profit colleges.

2.     List three major claims and the evidence Carey uses to support these claims

Kevin Carey claims that entrepreneurs have been “snapping up dying nonprofit colleges and quickly turning them into money-making machines”. Carey supports this evidence by then speaking to us about money and the federal government. He also claims that for-profits are rebranding themselves as “market based”. Carey supports this claim with the “90/10 rule”. Lastly, he then begins to talk about for-profit colleges not be necessarily bad. He supports his claim talking about the organization.

3.     Do any parts of his text seem particularity persuasive? Do any claims seem unsupported?

I did find some parts of this article to be particularity persuasive. I also did see a few claims that were unsupported.
