A Second Thought About Animals

Rifkin's claims in his text about animals provide strong emphasis about the point that he is

trying to get across to the reader. For example, He uses strong emphasis when stating the facts of

various animals in the animal kingdom.  His claims do also come with self-identification at the end of

his passage when he talks about expanding our empathy towards other living creatures. His evidence

supports his claims because it gives the audience a reason to believe his claims. One of the ways that

Rifkin used evidence was through facts. He stated facts about different animals from various parts of

the world. He also used narrative illustrations to give the reader an idea of what these animals are

capable of. Lastly, he authoritative quotes about how each animal has human characteristics. A

strategy that Rifkin uses excessive but effective way he supports his claims with his evidence.

Constantly letting the reader know what is going on and drilling it into the mind of the audience. This

is very effective because it really gets his point across to the reader. I was very persuaded after all the

facts and examples stated throughout the entire passage.

"Do We Have the Courage to Stop This?"

"Do We Have the Courage to Stop This?"
First of all, I found Kristof’s text very interesting and intriguing to read. I think Kristof’s main claims seem to be very persuading to those who have no knowledge about the gun safety issues here in the United States. The main types of evidence that Kristof used were his use of statistics to support his ideas. He used statistics to make the reader aware of the large amount of people suffering here in America, but also used statistics to show how much better other colonized countries are doing with the same issues. Another type of evidence that Kristof used was his way of giving resolutions to the problems he is talking about. He gave a satisfying amount of policies that would work to stop the gun safety crisis. Lastly, Kristof also stated what those who are in favor of guns would never get their guns taken away from them completely. This shows that he is not only talking about one side in this argument but is using pros and cons. Overall, he did a tremendous job supporting his evidence with good reasons and had acknowledgement of multiple perspectives. All his reasons linked together so perfectly and really made the reader feel what he felt. As for his multiple perspectives, like i said before he used pros/cons to give a view from all different angles in his text. All these ways of Kristof using evidence to support the issue he is trying to get across to the world were very effective and persuasive to the common reader.

My prospective major is biological sciences for the time being, however, I plan on switching my major to engineering. I have never really used the word "claim" in a class that I have taken but I have used the word "evidence" in multiple classes. I used "evidence" in plenty of my science classes that I have taken all throughout high school. For example, to prove certain theories to be true, you must have evidence to support your theory. Some writing activities that I enjoy outside of school are definitely tweeting and blogging. I use twitter almost everyday and I blog every once in a while. I usually tweet about what I am currently doing, what just happened to me, and what I am about to do. I feel like I am a very poor writer but I do think there is a lot of room for improvement and space to learn how to actually write.
